IBM is rolling out new advances in artificial intelligence (AI), hybrid cloud and quantum computing, which will help “its clients and partners accelerate their digital transformations, return to work smarter and build strategic ecosystems that can drive better business outcomes,” according to a press release.

AI will be used to help customers access answers to questions up to eight times faster, and at around half the cost as it was previously, through automating how customers access, integrate and manage data without having to move it, the release stated.

Another new capability is Watson Orchestrate, which will boost productivity among workers by letting professionals initiate work through an AI engine that will select and sequence the pre-packaged skills needed to do a task. It will connect with applications, tools, data and history, and allow workers to finish tasks quickly, from scheduling meetings to preparing proposals, according to the release.

There’s also Maximo Mobile, which will help transform the work for those who maintain physical assets like roads, with a “new, intuitive interface” that will get technicians the operational data they need at the right time, the release stated.

“We will look back on this year and last as the moment the world entered the digital century in full force,” said IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna in the release. “In the same way that we electrified factories and machines in the past century, we will use hybrid cloud to infuse AI into software and systems in the 21st century. And one thing is certain: This is a future that must be built on a foundation of deep industry collaboration. No one understands this better than IBM, which is one of the reasons we are boosting investment in our partner ecosystem.”

Last month, IBM acquired Turbonomic, a Boston-based application resource management (ARM) and network performance management software provider, PYMNTS reported. The reason for the purchase was to help boost the company’s AI capabilities.
